Session Drummer & teacher

Norris drums

‘I began learning drums at age 10 and haven’t put the sticks down since! My attention has been thoroughly captivated by the world of music from the very start.

This passion for music led me to pursue it throughout school, college and to receive a 4 year performance degree from BIMM London (music university). Since graduating I have still endeavoured to continue to improve upon my musical skillsets as much as possible.

It’s always been an exciting adventure consisting of enormous fun but definitely lots of hard work and dedication too!’

Learn from an educator who knows how to instill enjoyment, dedication and skill into the student, tailor lessons to meet your individual needs and who believes that enjoyment is absolutely necessary when drumming. These will ensure you progress quickly in your drum lessons and meet your aspirations, whilst having fun.

Steve’s breadth of experience means you can: Learn simply for your own pleasure, work on selected musical genres, or consider a more formal approach with Rockschool or Trinity Guildhall syllabus.

Steve is able to tailor his approach to your specific needs. Whether you are a beginner starting out, or an existing drummer of many years, you will gain from Steve’s supportive, flexible and experienced approach to drum lessons.

All of this is supported by Steve’s ongoing commitment to his own development. Steve is not satisfied that he has achieved a performance degree in drumming from the prestigious BIMM London, which involved instruction in drum lessons from the legendary Erik Stams (Walter Schreifles, Butch Thomas, Viola Wills) and Guiseppe Grondona whom has shared the same stage as Eric Clapton, Coolio and Pink. He continues to seek ways to develop, learn and broaden his own experience and is always thrilled to discuss this with an interested student, fueling their own appetite for development and progress. This approach ensures you will learn updated approaches and techniques in your drum lessons, as they emerge.

Steve loves teaching drums and finds it very rewarding when any of his pupils does well. You will receive praise and encouragement when your practice, devotion and commitment produces a drum lesson filled with enjoyment and progress.

Drumming Student Reference

‘Steve is a fantastic drum teacher. I started lessons earlier this year, having never played and with absolutely no sense of rhythm. Steve is patient, always enthusiastic, and has excellent communication and motivational skills. He has achieved what I thought was the impossible – he’s taught me how play to a beat (in time!), develop a sense of rhythm and feel confident sat at a drum kit! I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone keen to learn to play the drums.’

Reference from Session Client

“It was great having Steve Norris as a session drummer for our gig at Hampshire Octoberfest 2017.

Steve stepped in at the last minute and played a great gig after only a couple of rehearsals. Technically he is a very good drummer, playing some really complex and original patterns which complemented the songs well. He also put in some great fills, and finished all the songs correctly! We even threw a couple of new numbers into the set during final rehearsal which Steve more than coped with.

But it’s the rest which makes the difference – he’s reliable. He turned up on time to rehearsals having already learnt the set and, with his charts and notes, most songs were right first time. Steve took direction well and contributed to the arrangements. Plus he integrated into the band very easily and is genuinely a really nice guy!

I look forward to playing with Steve again and would highly recommend him as a drummer.”
